Recently I borrowed a book titled  Sing a Song of Hawker Food by a local writer named Luanne Ong. Don’t ask me why I suddenly back on this ancient platform but cool nights maybe made me a bit sentimental  I actually borrowed this book to expose my toddler to local food so that he will maybe like eating more (it’s very difficult sometimes to get him to sit down and eat) and I didn’t mind new songs to sing him because I’m frankly very board of the usual Wheels on the Bus, Happy Birthday, Itsy Bitsy Spider, 小毛驴 etc. But  it’s also quietly sad because he can’t really eat most of it with his allergies.  I was very excited when I got to the page about Putu Piring because YASSS it’s made of rice flour and gula melaka! The long list of allergens is very stressful ok.  The toddler loves it, especially the roti prata song with all the dramatic gestures, flapping hands like flipping dough.
